The Cat and The Bird- Houdong lamboiba amadi Pebet

Once upon a time, a Pebet(a kind of bird) lived in a tree with her newly hatched birdies. The mother bird was a clever one and took great care of her little ones and protect them from preys around.
In that area lived a male cat who pretended himself to be a monk, walking his path around the area chanting Samu kaka, Lili kaka, Samu kaka, Lili kaka everyday.
One day, on passing the Pebet,s nest the cat saw the birds together with their mother. He called the Pebet, ‘Pebet’ ‘Pebet’. Pebet answered, ‘Yes sir’. Then he asked, Am I Handsome? Hearing his words the pebet realize that the cat was asking these things with bad intentions in his mind. She could not dare to answer him back rudely as he was much stronger than them. So she decided to wait till her little birdies grow stronger. Pebet replied, “Yes sir” your precious face is like paddy grains kept fully loaded in the basket, The unique red fruit hanging from vines among bamboos...like these she compares the cat’s face with many other beautiful things.
The cat was overjoyed and feeling overwhelmed he left saying, ‘Take good care of your little ones’. Some days later the proud cat came again by the nest and asked the Pebet the same question and Pebet replied the same answer to keep the cat happy.
In the midst of this period, the Pebet taught her little ones to fly and within some days the birdies had learnt to fly well. The Pebet thought that it was time for her to teach the evil cat his lesson as her young ones would not be in his reach.
The next day, the cat returned back and asked Pebet , ‘Pebet’ ‘Pebet’. Am I Handsome? This time the angry bird started shouting in abusive manner, “Hey you ugly looking cat” ‘you are a rotten fish eater’ your face looks like the dirty black pot with soot on it. The cat was surprised to see such sight of the bird, he became so furious at her rude manners that he decided to kill the Pebet and eat up her little ones. As the cat begin to attack, the pebet flew away together with her birdies but unfortunately the youngest birdie was unable to fly like others and he was caught in the cat’s hand.
In such a situation, the Pebet again begin to use her wit to save her birdie and speak up to the cat in a low voice, ‘O dear sir’, you have caught my birdie, now you are going to eat him up... but please eat him in the right manner, give him a bath and keep him in a banana leaf before the sun for some time. This way he will be more tasteful to eat. The foolish cat followed the Pebet’s instructions and did everything as he was told. The young birdie felt much lively and became active. At the moment the cat was going to grab the birdie, the Pebet alerted her young one and shouted, Echa Tombi, Phrang...(meaning my youngest daughter, fly away....) and thus the birdie flew away leaving her poops in the palm of the mean cat. At this, the helpless cat cursed himself saying, “Oh” it had flown away! He licked the poops in his palm and said to himself, if the poop of the birdie taste so yum...imagine how tasty its whole body would be...’Oh! What a poor luck of mine. Seeing the condition of the cat, the Pebet along with her birdies sarcastically sung out from the tree, “Look  the evil minded cat has now eaten the poop of Pebet”.
