The story of Hornbill bird- Uchek Langmeidong gee wari

Once Upon a time there lived a man with her only daughter in their humble hut. The girl had lost her mother at a very young age, so she and her father lived a very lonely life. The girl misses her mother alot, her father said, no matter how hard I work our house never feels complete. In order to ease their problem and to make her daughter happy, the man remarried another woman. The girl was overjoyed with happiness. She thought her wished had come true. Her happiness had no bound when she thought that her stepmother will now caress her in her bosom...But as the girl started growing, the stepmother started hating and ill-treating her. Seeing the father’s love for her daughter, the stepmother became very jealous of the girl. She made her do all the household chores and often beat up and scolds her in the absence of his father.
The stepmother never let the girl rest for a while, she just gave her a work endlessly one after another and if the girl accidentally did something wrong she starts beating and scolding her and even abused her dead mother as well. It was good for the girl when her father was around however, when he was gone for work her stepmother ill-treatment follows. In this situation, the girl became so helpless and she was very sad.
Every evening, the girl saw flocks of Hornbill birds flying freely in the golden sky passing her house and seeing them she too wished to fly among them without any misery in the open sky. She started collecting the feathers of the birds which fell on the land. She fixed all the feathers dropped by the birds and made a pair of wings with it.
Some days later, the girl’s father left the village for some work and promised her daughter to return back soon with lots of gifts for her. As usual, the stepmother started mistreating the girl, she didn’t let her mingle among her friends who invited her for a group lunch. The mean stepmother didn’t even give her a proper meal. She was becoming weak and helpless inside day by day.
The next morning, she waited for the flocks of Hornbill to pass by and called out, “O Uchek  Langmei (Hornbill) , have pity on me,” “ I cannot bear the torture of my stepmother anymore,” “ I want to come out of this misery and fly freely in the open sky like you.” Please let me also join the flock! Hence the girl also became Uchek Langmeidong and flew away with the flocks in the sky.

Her father arrived with lots of clothes, ornaments and eatables for her daughter but she was not seen. The stepmother told him that she had left and will not return to us again. Her father came out of the courtyard and started calling her daughter, “Dear Emom(Daughter), look I have brought lots of gifts for you dear! Come to your father. The girl in the Hornbill figure came out and replied, “Dear Panthou (Father), your helpless child could not wait any longer for you to return, I cannot live among the Humans or taste their foods anymore. Please forgive your innocent child, Goodbye my dear father. So saying the girl flew away with her new friends.
