The story of Makok(Head)- Makok ki waree
Long long time ago there lived a widowed woman with her only son who was physically abnormal. His physique was not quite matched with his age as he had small limbs and small body, but his head was very big and so everyone named him Makok(Head). The mother and the son were very poor and Makok’s mother had to work hard to feed their stomach.
Makok felt pity on his mother’s condition and wanted to help
her by doing some work. So he told his mother that he will join his uncles in
their boat business and earn money. On hearing his words Makok’s mother
replied, My son, boat business is very tiring work, it will take days to carry
the business, you will become weaker and this type of work is not good for your
health. Though his mother refused him Makok persuaded her again and again and
hence she agreed to send him along with her brothers in their business. On the
other hand, Makok’s uncles who were not ready at first decided to take him
along with them as they thought that going out and exploring things might help
him experience new things around. And so they sail off for their days journey.
After sailing for five days they reached a part of a jungle
with all the stuff they brought to be sold. Unknown to them there was a gang of
thieves following them on a boat waiting for the right time to grab all the
things from the other boat. As the night fall, everyone was tired and Makok and his uncles decided to take
a nap on the boat. Soon the gang of thieves came on the boat and quickly took
out all the valuable stuffs which was to be sold and left without noise. While
the thieves were stealing stuffs Makok was not asleep and he remained hidden
between the pumpkins and he saw a ring fell out from one of the thieves. He
quietly took the ring and kept it safely with him.
In the morning Makok woke up everyone by shouting that
everything in their boat were missing. Immediately his uncles got up and
realize that all the business materials were stolen by the thieves while they
were asleep and they accepted it was their fault. So they decided to row back
home.
When they arrived home, Makok’s big uncle told their story
of their misfortune to Makok’s mother and showed his sad feelings on Makok’s
first unfortunate experience. He assured his sister to offer a suitable sum to
Makok on their next business sail.
Days passed and Makok had kept the ring with him secretly,
he didn’t even told his mother anything about it. One day he decided to test
the ring’s magical power when he was all alone in the house. In order to get
rid of their poverty Makok hold the ring and wised for a golden ball with his
eyes closed...and the next moment the golden ball appeared in front of his
eyes. Makok was overjoyed. He thought, this magical ring has come to me to
erase all my poverty and problems and hence I must use it well to gain respect
among my peoples. I should marry the only daughter of our King and in that way
people will respect me for sure.
Makok asked his mother to go to the King’s palace and ask
for his daughter’s hand but his mother refused saying that it will be like
aiming the moon. However, Makok stand firm on his decision and insisted his
mother to go to the King’s palace. His stubbornness make his mother went to the
king and when the King heard her proposal he became furious. The King ordered
his guards to dragged the woman out of the palace and Makok’s mother returned
home in disappointment.
Makok still insisted his mother for the proposal and the
woman had no way but to visit the King’s palace for third consecutive time and
the king ordered her son to perform a difficult and unique task which no one
else can do. Whatever the task was Makok performed everything well with the
help of his magical ring which left the king satisfied with him. In order to
mark his word, the King gave his daughter’s hand for marriage with Makok. So in
this way Makok gain fame and respect among his people and they lived well ever
